About Vintage French Copper

This website’s address is https://www.vintagefrenchcopper.com. The email address of the website administrator — me — is admin at vintagefrenchcopper dot com.

This is a non-commercial site. I’m just a regular person. I don’t sell anything and I don’t accept advertisements. I allow you to comment on my posts (and would love it if you did), and if you choose to comment, the site collects some information from you and uses it to help keep the site safe from spam. I need this help to run this site, but beyond allowing these services to operate, I don’t sell or trade your data with anyone.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, the site collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

The comment system also requires your email address. That information is captured and stored by the comment system, but I am the only human being who sees it. The only situation in which I use your email address is to contact you to follow up on your comment; there is no other human being who sees it or uses it.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. (I personally have turned location data off on all my digital cameras.)

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, the site will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, the site will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. (I try to bring content over and host it myself, but for copyright purposes I sometimes need to link to Youtube or whatever.)

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who I share your data with

As the owner of a non-commercial site, I don’t have any arrangements to share your data with anyone for commercial purposes. I do share your data with external services including WordPress and Akismet for spam prevention for the purposes of providing website content and functionality. I also use Google Analytics and Bing to track my website visitors, but that’s really just for my own entertainment more than anything.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on this website, I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). I can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can ask me for an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If you wish to contact me regarding your data, please send an email to VFC at vintagefrenchcopper dot com.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service called Akismet. The comment section on my posts give you the opportunity to review Akismet’s data handling policy prior to entering any information.

In short…

I’ve set this site up for my personal hobby. I’ve enabled a commenting system in hopes that people like you will participate. Enabling comments also opens my site up to spammers, and to reduce that risk and the nuisance of dealing with it, I’m using some online tools that track visitors. Nobody besides me ever sees the information that these tools collect, and if you ask me to delete it for you, I’d be happy to do so.

The comment system also asks for your email address, and I can see it. I may use your email address to contact you, but no other human being will see it or use it.
